Vibration Monitoring for Hydropower
Hydropower units combine large rotating assemblies, bearings, generators, turbines and auxiliaries. Condition monitoring helps build long-term evidence of mechanical change between inspections and planned outages.
Main rotating train
Trend bearing and housing vibration across turbine-generator assemblies where suitable.
Auxiliary equipment
Pumps, fans, cooling systems and other balance-of-plant assets are well suited to distributed monitoring.
Operating state
Load, speed, hydraulic conditions and transient operation can materially affect vibration and should be considered in analysis.
Measurement strategy
VibSys can complement a plant condition-monitoring strategy for suitable measurements and auxiliaries. It is not a replacement for dedicated turbine machinery-protection, overspeed or safety-trip systems.
Scalable monitoring with Istec VibSys
Istec VibSys A01 provides four vibration channels for distributed machine-condition monitoring. Units can be installed close to selected assets and expanded as monitoring coverage grows.
VibSys works with compatible 2-wire IEPE accelerometers and is not restricted to Istec-branded sensors. Sensor selection should match the speed range, expected vibration frequencies, temperature, environment and mounting arrangement.
VibSys supports condition monitoring, trending and diagnostics. Safety-critical protection, shutdown and trip functions should use the appropriate dedicated protection architecture.
