Vibration Monitoring for Electric Motors

Vibration Monitoring for Electric Motors

Electric motors drive a large share of industrial rotating equipment. Continuous vibration monitoring provides a practical way to trend mechanical health across motors critical to production.

Motor bearings

Detect developing bearing-condition changes and deterioration.

Alignment & coupling

Motor vibration can expose alignment, coupling, soft-foot and driven-machine issues.

Rotor & structure

Imbalance, looseness and structural resonance can create characteristic changes in vibration.

Measurement strategy

Monitor both motor and driven equipment where practical. Speed, load, VFD operation and mounting stiffness should be considered when comparing trends.

Scalable monitoring with Istec VibSys

Istec VibSys A01 provides four vibration channels for distributed machine-condition monitoring. Units can be installed close to selected assets and expanded as monitoring coverage grows.

VibSys works with compatible 2-wire IEPE accelerometers and is not restricted to Istec-branded sensors. Sensor selection should match the speed range, expected vibration frequencies, temperature, environment and mounting arrangement.

VibSys supports condition monitoring, trending and diagnostics. Safety-critical protection, shutdown and trip functions should use the appropriate dedicated protection architecture.
