Vibration Monitoring for Wind Turbines
Wind turbines operate under continuously changing speed and load. Trending vibration alongside operating conditions can support earlier recognition of changes in drivetrain and auxiliary rotating equipment.
Drivetrain
Gearbox, generator and bearing measurements can provide useful condition trends when interpreted with speed and load.
Variable operation
Wind speed, rotor speed, power and transient events affect vibration, so contextual data is important.
Auxiliary assets
Cooling fans, pumps and other rotating auxiliaries can also be monitored as part of a broader condition strategy.
Measurement strategy
Sensor selection, measurement bandwidth and analysis strategy should match the turbine architecture. Safety and turbine protection functions remain the responsibility of dedicated certified systems.
Scalable monitoring with Istec VibSys
Istec VibSys A01 provides four vibration channels for distributed machine-condition monitoring. Units can be installed close to selected assets and expanded as monitoring coverage grows.
VibSys works with compatible 2-wire IEPE accelerometers and is not restricted to Istec-branded sensors. Sensor selection should match the speed range, expected vibration frequencies, temperature, environment and mounting arrangement.
VibSys supports condition monitoring, trending and diagnostics. Safety-critical protection, shutdown and trip functions should use the appropriate dedicated protection architecture.
