Vibration Monitoring for Gearboxes

Vibration Monitoring for Gearboxes

Industrial gearboxes contain multiple rotating components and characteristic frequencies. Continuous monitoring helps identify changes in bearings, gears, shafts and alignment while faults are developing.

Gear mesh

Changes around gear-mesh frequencies and sidebands can support diagnosis of tooth or load-related problems.

Bearing condition

High-frequency vibration can provide evidence of developing rolling-element bearing defects.

Alignment & looseness

Shaft alignment, foundation stiffness and mechanical looseness can influence gearbox vibration.

Measurement strategy

Sensor position, bandwidth and sampling matter. Place sensors close to relevant bearing locations and use diagnostic spectral information rather than relying only on a single overall value.

Scalable monitoring with Istec VibSys

Istec VibSys A01 provides four vibration channels for distributed machine-condition monitoring. Units can be installed close to selected assets and expanded as monitoring coverage grows.

VibSys works with compatible 2-wire IEPE accelerometers and is not restricted to Istec-branded sensors. Sensor selection should match the speed range, expected vibration frequencies, temperature, environment and mounting arrangement.

VibSys supports condition monitoring, trending and diagnostics. Safety-critical protection, shutdown and trip functions should use the appropriate dedicated protection architecture.
