Albright DC contactors are used to connect, disconnect or reverse electrical loads in battery-powered equipment. Choosing the right part starts with the circuit: a main power contactor and a motor-reversing assembly perform different jobs, even when their current ratings look similar.
Find the guide for your application
- Bow and stern thrusters: identify the original solenoid and check the full specification before replacement.
- Electric winches, windlasses and capstans: match direction control, motor type and operating duty.
- SW and SU contactor selection: understand switching configuration, coil voltage and current ratings.
- Industrial vehicles, hydraulic power packs and DC power systems: compare the circuit requirements with manufacturer guidance.
Which Albright family should I investigate?
SW is a broad family containing different contact arrangements. SW80 is a normally open, single-pole main contactor; SW182 is a motor-reversing type. SU80 and SU280 are normally open main contactors. DC88 and DC182 are compact monoblock motor-reversing assemblies. The family name alone does not identify the coil, suppression, sealing or exact terminal layout.
Start with a complete specification
Record the full part number, control-coil voltage, main circuit voltage, motor or load type, operating current, switching conditions, duty cycle and mounting space. For a replacement, obtain the equipment manufacturer's specified part or an approved alternative. A larger current figure does not by itself establish compatibility.
Frequently asked questions
Is a contactor the same as a solenoid?
In equipment parts lists, “solenoid” often means the electromagnetic switch used to control motor power. Compare the full component specification rather than relying on the name used in the catalogue.
Can any Albright contactor be used in a boat?
No. Suitability depends on the individual variant, circuit and installation environment. Enclosure protection and any equipment-specific approvals must be checked.
Where can I browse the range?
Use the Albright contactors collection or the broader DC contactors and solenoids collection. These catalogues include different functions and variants; they are starting points for selection.
